How is your medical weight loss program different from standard diet and exercise plans?
At Eviva, we are creating a weight loss program individually tailored to meet your unique needs. We will go beyond standard programs to create a plan that takes your preferences and lifestyle into consideration. Our medical weight loss program does not just focus on one aspect of weight loss, but rather takes a comprehensive, holistic approach that includes food, exercise and behavioral modification.
We emphasize a lifestyle approach to weight loss that can help you maintain a healthy weight for a lifetime, not just a quick fit- these typically do not last. With this approach, we help you reshape your lifestyle by adopting healthy new habits and breaking unhealthy old ones. The goal is to make simple, pleasurable changes that will result in a healthy weight that you can maintain for the rest of your life. We will set achievable goals and help you with handling setbacks.
Will I need to exercise?
There is no requirement for exercise, although research consistently shows that exercise increases the likelihood of maintaining a healthy weight along with not regaining the weight you have lost. To lose weight, you need to burn more calories than you consume, exercise can help you achieve this by burning off some additional calories.
Not only is exercise helpful with weight loss and weight maintenance, it is really great for your health. In addition to weight loss benefits, exercise is also beneficial for your mental health, and can help you manage stress. Incorporating an exercise plan alongside your diet can reduce the amount of muscle you lose as you lose weight, which is important because muscle is more metabolically active than fat.
How can medications help with my weight loss?
Medication can be helpful for weight loss when used in combination with diet, exercise, and lifestyle changes. The benefits of weight loss medications include: appetite control, improvement of eating behavior, and slow progression of weight gain and regain. Patients lose on average 1.5x to 2x the weight when compared to weight loss without medications. One aspect of appetite suppressant medications is that they can often help change how people think about their food, which helps to instill positive eating habits so that patients can be successful in the long term. We will work with you to come up with a plan that works best for you.
How much weight will I lose?
How much weight you lose varies from person to person and also depends on a number of factors including: the diet you follow, medications, your starting weight, your gender and any number of other genetic and environmental variables. Statistically, medical weight loss patients lose on average 10-15% of their body weight.
How long is your medical weight loss program?
The length of time you may stay on any weight loss program depends on which program and medications you are on, how much weight you wish to lose and how motivated you are.
